X-Men II: The Fall of the Mutants is a 1990 action video game based on the Marvel Comics team: the X-Men. It was developed by Paragon Software and released on the PC in 1990. This game is a sequel to Paragon's 1989 release of X-Men: Madness in Murderworld.

Plot[]

The X-Men look for their allies Storm and Forge, who have been missing for an unknown amount of time. To the team's surprise, they are greeted by Freedom Force, who have been sent to capture them. Both teams eventually find themselves stuck in a time warp caused by the Adversary, who has imprisoned Storm and Forge. Uatu the Watcher appears telling the player that the game is a parallel universe of the "real" Marvel Comics timeline in vein of Marvel's What If? series.

Gameplay[]

The player gets to choose from 15 different playable characters and use their powers to progress in the game. The game uses an overhead view as characters look through the map, look for enemies, health crates, and traps. When the player encounters an enemy, the game switches to a side view close-up during fight scenes. In each level, the player must look for a pair of Freedom Force members and defeat them in battle, but only defeating one villain will send the player to the next level. After completing enough levels, the player gets to face the Adversary himself.
