The Amazing Spider-Man is an action beat 'em up developed by Rare and published by LJN in North America and Nintendo in Europe. It is a platform side scrolling action game. It was followed by two sequels, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3: Invasion of the Spider-Slayers.
Plot[]
Spider-Man's secret identity is compromised and his greatest foes have found it out. They then kidnap Mary Jane Parker and Peter must save her. Peter battles through various locations in New York City, battling many thugs, animals and a supervillain at each location who taunted Peter about the whereabouts of his wife.
Gameplay[]
The player has three lives and three continues. Spider-Man can jump a normal and double height. When he double jumps, he can swing on a web. This can be done until the web-meter runs out. Spider-Man's main attack is a punch and a kick when crouched. He can also perform a side kick while jumping in the air. While standing still, Spidey can shoot a web ball at his enemies, which depletes his web-meter. Spider-Man can use his Spider-Sense to dodge obstacles that goons will throw down towards him. The player can collect web vials to refill their web-meter. These are dropped by henchmen. Spider-Man can also regain health via burgers placed throughout the levels.
