Questprobe is trilogy of text adventure games featuring Marvel Comics characters. It was developed and published by Adventure International. The three games in the trilogy are Questprobe featuring The Hulk, Questprobe featuring Spider-Man and Questprobe featuring The Human Torch and The Thing.
Development[edit | edit source]
The trilogy was designed by Scott Adams, and initially released in 1984 for the Atari 8-bit, Apple II, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 with the sequels being published the year after. The original plan for the Questprobe franchise was for twelve games to be developed in the franchise, but Adventure International went bankrupt in 1985 and so the Questprobe franchise had an abrupt end. The fourth title in the franchise was slated to be Questprobe featuring the X-Men.
After the first game in the franchise, Questprobe featuring The Hulk, released, Adams did a major upgrade to the game engine he had used for the game to be implemented into the sequels. Due to this, the first game suffered from only being able to handle two word directions at a time and understood very few terms and directions.
The second Questprobe game, Questprobe featuring Spider-Man, improved on this by allowing the player to input full sentences for a much smoother experience.

Comic tie-ins[edit | edit source]
Questprobe had a comic book tie-in release. Although it was intended to be a 12-issue mini series, the series was canned after issue #3 in 1985 due to Adventure International's bankruptcy. The story that was originally meant for issue #4, which featured the X-Men, was published in Marvel Fanfare #33 in 1987. The events of the Questprobe comic miniseries were followed up on in the Quasar series.
